THEMATIC APPRECIATION TEST

Thematic Appreciation test:
this is a projection test or in simple words it is a test of the candidate's  imagination. This test is based on the fact that the  imagination of a person completely depends on the experience of a person which is stored in the the subconscious mind.Whatever the person see around himself, may be ignored by the conscious mind but is taken by the subconscious mind. This saved experience is reflected in this test.

This test is conducted in a big hall where all the candidates are allowed to sit together and a series of pictures are shown to them. There are total of 11 pictures shown to candidates and the candidates  have to write the stories around the pictures depending upon their own perception. To activate the imagination of the candidate the pictures are kept hazy.Once these 11 pictures are over,a blank picture is shown.Candidates have to write the story on their own seeing an imaginary picture.
Through the stories written by the candidate the assessors extracts the hidden thoughts of the candidate, his qualities, his behavior in certain conditions, his risk taking abilities,etc...
The candidates are warned to be truthful because the outcome of these result is mapped with the information given in the PIQ and must have a certain degree of resemblance. The picture doesn't ends here, the report prepared by the psychologist is forwarded to the interviewing officer who cross check the validity of the result with his own technique. So it becomes impossible to hide yourself from these assessors.

Rules Of The Game:
As explained, there will be 11 pictures followed by a blank one will be shown. Each picture will be shown for for 30 seconds and after 30 sec is over, the picture will be removed and candidates will be given 3-4 minutes to write the story. This way,all pictures will be shown one by one.

Tips for success:
  • Observe the picture carefully and decide the central character that is the  hero of your story.
  • decide the age , mood , sex , of the hero.
  • give a name to the hero.
  • After the central character, observe the surrounding  and the background of the picture.
  • Once you observe the surrounding, make a theme of your story in su8ch a way that it resemble with the surrounding and the mood of the hero.
  • after deciding the theme, narrate your story around the picture.
  • Be positive in your story
Things to be kept in mind:

While writing the story, candidate must keep certain facts in their mind. The most important thing is that the story reflects you in the story,so always keep yourself in the picture and narrate the story in the way you will react in the situation.Don't take any extra ordinary situation and solve it in a superman way.your story should be normal and your hero as well.Through the story you have to show your own qualities and abilities.Action going on in your story should be normal like in everyday life.Story should not jump from one situation to other and it should be circulating around the picture.

Story should be written describing what led to the picture, what is going on in the picture and what happened after that.
Hence, the story has three parts. The first part is written in past tense to describe what led to the picture. The second part of the story  is written in the continuous tense to explain what is happening in the situation/picture and the last part of the story is again written in the past to describe what happened after that.

You may add supporting character in the story but not let that character overcome you hero and use him to show the coordinating  nature of your hero.

Do's and Don't  for writing the story:

  • Write the story on social problems that are very common in daily life and make your hero to fight such situation.
  • Always write a positive story.
  • Convert a negative story in a positive one.
  • Try to name your hero in accordance with your story. e.g. if your story  consist of rural background, then try to name your hero likewise.
  • Make your story continuous. Don't jump.
  • Don't try to relate all the story with armed forces as this gives very poor impression of yours and shows that you have been polished.
  • Don't use your own name and city in the story. In fact try not to use any particular name of a city.Just say in city and also dont use XYZ etc..
  •   Don't describe the picture.
  • Don't give moral or advice in the story.
  • NEVER AND NEVER MAKE ANY PRE PLANNED STORY FOR ANY OF THE PICTURE ESPECIALLY  FOR THE BLANK PICTURE.
